Last year the garden hosted refugees from Burma (Myanmar) and this year every Thursday morning refugees from Bhutan are in the garden. We are grateful for the collaboration with Lutheran Services of Iowa and for the chance to help integrate these new residents to Iowa and the United. States.
Faith & Grace Garden, a joint ministry of Covenant Presbyterian Church and St. Timothy’s Episcopal Church in West Des Moines, Iowa, is on track to exceed last year’s harvest of 15,600 pounds of food due to the addition of fruit and nut trees, courtesy of Trees Forever. Check out the youtube story of the garden at youtu.be/XiwqQ16K3Gs or search “Faith & Grace and Trees Forever.” To date, 1743 pounds of food have been harvested for the 2013 growing season. Also added this year in conjunction with Lutheran Social Services is a ministry with refugees from Burma who are using the garden to help with social and cultural integration. A Children’s Garden has been added to support Covenant’s Head Start program coordinated with Drake University.
